FACILITATED BY ARTISTS JOSH SARANTITIS AND MIKAELA GONZALEZ
Above: The mural design was born after a series of after-school workshops including students from SFE and HSVD. The head of the work features a powerful Earth Goddess, facing the Morris Campus Farm and acting as protector of the plants and life on both sides of the wall. As part of her sun earring, hand-crafted masks designed by students from all four Morris Campus high schools will act as mini protectors of the goddess, representing the many faces of the local South Bronx youth.
Ideas for a banner facing the community announcing the farm flourished from envisioning sessions with Mr. Samonte's Bronx International class. The design includes many original drawings from students, which were then colored in by different groups in the classroom, printed in large format, and painted. We hope to finish and hang the banner soon!
SFE students also helped with the banner painting!
